Sunny Summer Days
Artist Statement: The overall message that I am trying to convey with my picture is that I love summer, it is my favorite season and I love everything about it, including the sun, sunsets, beaches, swimming, flowers, and careless nights. The first layer of my picture is my selfie which I made sure to capture in broad sunlight because it matches the overall theme of my selfie project which is sunny summer days. I wanted to be smiling and look happy because that is exactly how I feel about summer and I wanted to make sure that it was shown in my image. The second layer is a picture of the sunset that I took on one of my favorite summer nights when I was on a family vacation in Florida, I included it because it also adds to my theme. The third layer of my image is a picture of a flower that I took because I loved the yellow color of the flower petals. This flower reminded me of my theme because not only do flowers remind me of warmth which reminds me of summer but the yellow color made me think of the sun which is always shining during the summertime. The fourth layer of my picture is another picture of a flower that I took but I choose this flower because to me it looked like a sunset because of the colors that were on the petals of the flower and the way the colors were lied out on the flower looked like a sunset which automatically reminded me of the beautiful sunsets in the summertime.
Full Skies and Empty Minds
Artist Statement:
The overall message that I am trying to convey with this image is that although this world is one all together, there is so much within it that is very different. My selfie that is the bottom of the double exposure image, was taken in the car when I was on a long car drive. I realized that I needed to take a picture for this assignment and thought since I am so bored I might make some good use of my time. I liked the light that was shining through the car window but it did make it a little hard for the overall image to be easily visible so I edited the image and made it black and white. I ended up titling the selfie "Are We There Yet" because the car ride was so long and boring that, that question just kept going through my mind and I wanted to get there. My second image that I included in my double exposure is a picture of the sky that I took when I was on vacation in the upper peninsula. I loved the sky and how it looked so full with all of the clouds in the sky and I loved the light and bright blue sky that really seemed to bring out the white clouds. I titled the landscape image "Full Skies" because of the full sky of clouds that day.
Final Artist Statement:
The two images "Sunny Summer Days" and "Full Skies and Empty Minds" seem to contrast in more ways than they compare. These to images compare by both incorporating a picture that I took of the sky/sun at one point or another when I was on vacation. They also both incorporate the double exposure technique. My second image contains just a better image over the the first image because I have better techniques to help me get a better picture, for example, I have a better experience with taking landscape images, in the terms that the light was better captured in the sky and the landscape as a whole. Another way that my second image is better than my first is the fact that I was better educated on how to position a camera, my selfie and the angles that they were taken at were far better in my second selfie than my first. Also I was a able to take the selfie in a more centered fashion to make me the focal point of the image whereas in my fist one I was more to the right of the image.
