Summer Days
I took this photo around when the sun was beginning to set which really brought back memories and reminded me of the summer times when I was younger and my family and I would take our dinner outside to eat together. When taking this picture I really loved how the sun shinned through the clear part of the glass and how the shadow stood out so clear on the sidewalk. This cup is a very sentimental piece of my childhood and that's why when I was photographing it I wanted to make sure that it looked its best and I felt I did that by capturing the light shinning through the cup, catching the cups shadow, and making sure the colors of the cup stood out well by putting the cup on a blank plain background like the sidewalk.
Home Away From Home
This stuffed animal is a very important part of my childhood, my brother and I loved to take it outside to play with especially at the park near our house. When taking this photo I wanted to position the stuffed animal so that is looked as if it were leaving the house which is how my brother and I would look if we were going outside to play with the stuffed animal. I wanted to make sure that the sun wasn't directly shinning on the stuffed animal when I took this photo because most of the time when my brother and I world play with this stuffed animal it was getting late so I wanted it to look like the sun was setting by having the sun shine on the back of the stuffed animal. By doing this I felt like I captured the light and emphasized the object well by capturing the contrast between the dark background and the highlighted focus point.
Tea Party
When I was little I loved to have tea parties with all of my dolls on my front lawn and I would place my favorite doll in this pink high chair. While I was positioning this chair for photographing I noticed how nice the shadow was on the sidewalk and I wanted to make sure that I included it in the photographs. I made sure that the light was shining on the chair from behind so that the dark shadow and the bright pink chair had a nice contrast in the photo creating a nice balance of values of color making the chair an even bigger focal point.
Quiet Best Friend
The doll in this picture is named Rosie and she was one of my favorite dolls from my childhood, she also was one of the dolls that was included in the tea parties that I talked about in the above statement and that is why I thought it would be a good idea to include it in this collection of photographs because it followed the sort of theme I have going. I usually like to play house with my dolls so that is why you can sort of see a house in the background because I wanted to make sure that I positioned the focal point with a background that matched it and gave it a purpose to stand out. I also liked that the doll isn't positioned straight up because a doll isn't a person so the fact that the doll is falling over shows just that the doll wont be perfect because it cant move on its own to fix its hair or sit up straighter.
Fun In The Sun
This is the ball that my siblings and I loved to pay kickball with in the summer at the beach near my grandmas house. The ball is lined with orange stripes as shown in the picture but I loved the blue color of the ball and that is why I had the light hitting the front of the ball where there is the most blue showing. I also felt that I captured a nice contrast of the bright ball and the sort of darker grass that I used as the background which helped the focal point become the positive space of the picture and appear more emphasized.
